The latest fashion show, titled “Micro”, is a nod to the complexity and incredibility of microscopic organisms that have a substantial impact into our world. The creatures visible only through special microscopic tools enhanced with the photography of Steve Gschmeissner become a true inspiration for Iris as a base of her spring 2012 Haute Couture collection. Bonnie Strange’s lavender hair and matching lavender eyes, red lips and vibrant nail colours – all styled by hair and makeup artist Anja Fichtenmayer – turn her into the perfect inhabitant of this rainbow world. When he was nine years old, he and his family moved to Holland, and it was there that he studied fashion design. The collection he showed at 2012′s Amsterdam fashion week (AIFW) was made in his studio in Casablanca. At the final show of the week Mahrouf presented his Haute Couture collection “Avalanche” which was inspired by the Avalanche rose and included a host of beautiful dresses. The whole collection was very feminine and elegant and the dresses were made of the most beautiful fabrics. The front of the dresses may have been gorgeous, but the backs were even more stunning. He used, to fantastic effect, various different patterns for the backs. There was also a nice draping in the collection which gave a loose and lively feeling. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures Surreal or Real – it’s not quite a statement, not quite a question but rather a punctuation-less piece of typography floating across the cover of Vogue Italia’s February 2012 issue. Whether or not it begs you to mentally add a question mark, it does set the mood of the issue. The main editorial, like the cover, stars Laura Kampman as photographed by Steven Meisel. It’s not your instructional type fashion shoot and nor is it exactly cinematic; in this case Meisel’s work borders more to frameable art. The surrealism hinted at on the cover weaves in without too much fanfare. It’s all created through small twists in styling and photography rather than through cluttered Dali-esque sets or vast attempts at mind-bending futurism. If anything, some of Meisel’s black and white shots feel like they’re channeling 1920s silent films (owing some influence to The Artist, perhaps?) – clawed gloves and tree-like headpieces more akin to theatrical costume than anything you’d find in modern cinema. Kampman is a little expressionless throughout, but has just the right features to justify her casting in such a dark, vintage-esque editorial endeavour. Article continues. Diem surprised everyone with his show and was therefore the perfect clincher. The collection he showed is called The Asphalt Jungle which refers to the film from 1950 with Marilyn Monroe. Diem has always been interested in film-noir and this turned out to be the inspiration for his latest collection. Fitting with the theme, he used almost only black and white colors in his collection. Dennis Diem is known for handcraft and corsets, so it wasn’t that surprising that we also this time saw corsets and silhouettes with small waists and wide shoulders – such as the perfect hourglass measurements from Marilyn Monroe. In a few short years designers Teale Talbot and Letitia McLean have turned the casual glam-grunge aesthetic the brand was born with into something more polished; something more equipped to stand alone on the international stage. And yet that original aesthetic has never had to pack its bags – only to grow up a little. For fall 2012 that means a mix of toughness and refined cool that comes from the marriage of sheer fabrics and leathers, masculine details and feminine ones. This next phase of the Friend Of Mine girl’s life has her trading in her motorcycle boots for stilettos; her bed-hair for a slick ponytail. The ‘it’ in question is the elusive space between darkly avant guarde and coolly wearable, and while the sparkling circus-like aesthetic of the opening piece didn’t return through the rest of her fall 2012 show at Copenhagen fashion week (CFW), the remainder of the outfits were equally on-target. These were intricate, bordering on Gothic but tipping a hat to the futurist. Polar bears reared up on some snow-capped pieces while others were splodged with galaxies of paint, or wrought with alien-faced emotion. Texture is certainly key for Madsen, and these darkly themed pieces showed their craftsmanship through the 3-dimensional details. Article continues.
