With heart-shaped trinkets overtaking the accessory racks this month, Odette’s new Arrow ring makes for a refreshingly understated Valentine’s Day gift that isn’t overtly cutesy (or pink, for that matter). The local label’s Athene Divinus collection is inspired by ancient artifacts, so the form can reference Cupid’s arrow or less romantically loaded lore. Each ring is carved from wax and hand-cast in sterling silver or brass. Odette New York Arrow Ring, $75 or $138 online. Read more posts by Filed Under: best bets | ![]() |
Beyoncé made her very first public appearance as a mom last night! Wearing a slinky red dress that shows just how fantastic she looks! She arrived at the 40/40 Club around midnight for an after-party for Jay-Z's benefit concert at Carnegie Hall, where he performed "Glory" and made lots of people cry. But back to Beyoncé: She sat in a booth with Jay-Z and, according to our reporter, showed photos on her Blackberry to her friends. You know what this means, don't you?! PICTURES OF BABY BLUE EXIST. In other news, Beyoncé is wearing Alice by Temperley, Louboutin pumps, and an Alexander McQueen clutch. You know, standard "just put the baby down" fare. No matter how you feel about the onslaught of street-style images during fashion season, there's a certain sport to be had in dissecting the showgoers' outfits. With that in mind, we once again asked some of the best street-style photographers — including Citizen Couture's Jason Jean, Mr. Newton's Eddie Newton, and Streetpeeper's Phil Oh — about their favorite shots from last season and who they look forward to shooting this coming month. (Yes, there are some fresh faces amid the traditional favorites.) Check out our slideshow and get excited for the parade of tiny bags, impeccable layering, and blisteringly high heels, sure to be immortalized in the following weeks. More Fashion Week Preview:

Guys, being a fashion plate is hard. Particularly during show season, when your every outfit gets photographed, fawned over, shot some more, and then scrutinized from head (outlandish hat) to toe (Prada heels). Were it not for the many calming facials that accompany pre-fashion week routines, there’d be a high risk of stress-related breakouts and worry lines all over the front row's faces. Oh, the horror! But luckily, we’ve taken all the rocket science out of the sartorial equation with our snazzy outfit-o-matic. Style folks like Anna, Carine, Kanye, Freja, and others in their own clothes, each other's, and some random outfits for good measure. The possbilities aren't quite endless, but they are fun; there's our take on Anna doing Lagerfeld above, with a bonus military beret, just because. And really, who wouldn’t want to see Terry Richardson dressed up like a garden gnome? Or Anna Dello Russo paying homage to Pink Flamingos–era Divine? Let us know in the comments which outfit combinations work best, and whether we’ve left out any key pieces. After a mass exodus of Halston's design team and investors last summer, former BCBG president Ben Malka swooped in to turn things around. Perhaps even more important than his experience in the contemporary womenswear market was the cash he brought with him: a $20 million infusion that's since kept the company afloat. Malka tells WWD his turnaround plan is working: Halston Heritage is selling well in various department stores, and he plans to bring back the Halston runway collection for fall 2013. As for any lingering money troubles, WWD reports:

For Boy by Band of Outsiders' spring 2012 look book, Scott Sternberg took Polaroids of Michelle Williams dressed up in his designs. The sun-washed, Lula-esque images of Williams in his floral prints and cotton skirts were taken in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (hence that one shot of Williams digging next to a gravestone), which is right across the street from the Band of Outsiders office in Hollywood. While her old "boss" Kelly Cutrone takes over for André Leon Talley on America's Next Top Model, Whitney Port will join the judges on the show's British edition. Alongside returning panelists Julien MacDonald and Elle Macpherson (who also hosts the show), she's a new face for the eighth season of Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model. Male model Tyson Beckford also signed on to judge; perhaps Elle's hoping for some thumb-sucking fun too? According to his publicist, Alexander Wang won't be introducing fashion folks to novel pleasures like bouncy castles and bumper cars after his show next week. This is disappointing, particularly since his last few after-parties were such ragers (complete with those "beef consommé" Jell-O shots). No need to mourn, though — Wang's camp says they'll resume their after-partying in September. Most of Karl Lagerfeld's interviews involve him making blithe — and borderline offensive — statements about everything from Michelle Obama to the middle class to saving the economy. But for his guest-edited issue of Metro World News, out today, he actually answered some question about himself. Personal questions, like about sex and pets and death, even! Here's an excerpt from Kenya Hunt's interview.
Of course, they talked about other subjects, too, like whether Karl watches TV:
Who has influenced him during his life?
On why he doesn't keep pets:
And speaking of death:
Well, at least we know that he's always open to changing his mind (on pets, at least). New York Fashion Week starts this Thursday, so that means editors, buyers, and bloggers — at once the intended audience and the sideshow stars of the whole circus — are currently in full-on preparation mode. While the rest of the world has been occupied with other things, like stuffing our faces with nachos during the Super Bowl, dreading our taxes, and vaguely remembering something about Valentine’s Day, the fashion industry’s front row has been hibernating in jasmine-scented moisture masks, meditating under the Indian sun, juice-fasting, hitting the treadmill before dawn, and planning their outfits. Click through to get the details on how Anna Dello Russo, Cindi Leive, Edward Enninful, and more get ready for the main event. John Galliano finally ventured out of his house — or wherever he's been holed up for almost a year now — to attend a birthday party for D.J. Jeremy Healy in London, the Post reports. (Since his drunken debacle, his only non-court-related appearance was at Kate Moss's wedding, where he fluffed her veil and looked sad.) According to the Post's source, his presence at Healy's party "caused quite a flutter in the room." And despite being at a trendy bar (Hix on Brewer Street), John behaved himself: "John was quiet and reserved, he was sober and very demure, but there to support his friend," the source reports. Perhaps this is the first step in Galliano's gradual reintegration into the world? The fashion industry's horror at his behavior has waned at this point, and he's surely received some invitations to European shows.
