Getting a square haircut
| The bad-boy messy hair era may be over, or on hold at least. Since the whole dapper-tweed-nerd trend is trickling in, I thoroughly believe it's the beginning. Brad Pitt looks great with his nerd haircut, then again, he always looks great... Scott Schuman does too, it's a lot different than his old haircut and gives him a completely different look.

The Awesomest Watch
| The Casio Watch, in another color besides black. Why didn't they think of it before....I want hot pink. In white it's $24.00.

No, you can't keep your junk in my handbag.
| Unless you don't mind carrying my bag as I shop... You can always get your own holster. YML makes this great Italian leather holster to hold your goodies, that way you won't have to figure out how to hold a handbag without being somehow emasculated.

Punk actually died...
| I am too young to have experienced punk first hand. However, punk was very influential to my teenage years, in Southern California, the surf/skate scene was kind of at it's peak, the grunge years... alternative went mainstream.. bla bla bla. I always thought punk would live in spirit at least....Until I wanted to see The Future is Unwritten, a documentary about Clash member Joe Strummer....The reviews said it was personal and emotional, so I wanted to see it. The Clash is a great band, I think everyone should know about them, their musical influence, and even their attire, which, I think they were better dressed than the Sex Pistols (sorry Vivienne! I love you!)

White Russian
| Some of the most pleasant fashion surprises on the internet don't come from 16 year old suburban rich girls but from New York City Architects, MKNYC on ilikemystyle.net is my new hero. Not to mention he did design the interior of my all time favorite bookstores, Printed Matter.

Creative Ties
| For some reason there has always been this divide between men who are into business, and men who are creative. Maybe it's like the whole male Jackie/Marilyn thing... who knows. The past couple of years, I've noticed a few men who wear ties for pleasure, not for business, as their professions don't really require they do... no one expects an artist or a designer to wear a tie, and perhaps that's what makes the tie more interesting, it's unexpected. Here's Rocky (my bf) he's an industrial designer, and this tie doesn't mean business.Jacket and cardigan: VintageJeans: April 77Tote: Azyit BostanCalculator Watch: CasioShoes: I'll have to find out, but they are from Paris, and made of hemp (sorry)

Fiber & Fellow
| Since I've been obsessing over bow ties lately... when Fiber & Fellow came to my attention, I knew it deserved a closer look. Based out of Long Beach their first season Fall 08 just hit the stores.Fiber & Fellow can be found on Revolve Clothing, or check the site for stockists.

Suited
| Upon looking through my regular loads of fashion related junk mail, I came across Tobi.com's lookbook for fall. I really did like the outfit they put the model in, a tie, of course, why do I love them so much? Who knows? But worn with a military jacket and jeans... The Sartorialistcaught a guy sporting this style in New York on the streets (of course with more depth and color)... so it leaves me to wonder if we're going to see more of this mixture between formal and informal attire?

1964
| straydog 1964Originally uploaded by nouk|baudrotWhatever happened to pea coats and turtlenecks? Perhaps they've gone the way of the long shoremen, or maybe they've been lost in the back racks of vintage shops in the Mid West. Actually, I've not seen anyone pull this off in quite a while especially with a plaid coat. German photographer Nouk, leaves me with a powerful image... maybe it's the cigarette, they're disgusting, but they look cool on film. Perhaps its the European 1960's revolutionary cool he's channeling. Whatever it is, I love it.

Alexander McQueen AW09
| I've been feeling a lack of inspiration lately... that is until I saw Alexander McQueen's AW 09 collection... straight out of Gangs of New York, or Sweeney Todd meets Clockwork Orange, this collection has 19th century sinister feel to it. Totally bad ass.

Ciao Bello
| I've always had a thing for tiny cars, the BMW Isetta (a new version is rumored to surface in 2010), the old Mini, the new Mini... the Fiat 500. Oh, and the BMW 2002 tii... all time favorite. The only time I've ever drove a Fiat was in Rome. The car must have been as old as I am, and barely bigger than me, and the gears were crazy. Following my friend zipping around on her Vespa filled me with a sense of fear I've never felt before. There seems to be a shortage of Fiats Stateside... I mean, you'll see a couple older ones but they tend to be collectors models... or totally falling apart. Which is why I was pleased to see the new versions when I came over to Germany. On 9 November, Diesel and Fiat released a limited edition of the Fiat 500... working on the terms small and dark... Here are some of the features:The 500 by Diesel is touched with details that capture the essence of the cult brand. The most obvious are the 16" alloy hubcaps emblazoned with Diesel's famous 'mohican' logo. In addition the brake callipers (of the 1.4 litre 100 bhp model) are painted bright yellow. Fenders and body trim feature 'rivet' detailing. They're also in chrome, along with the radiator cowling and the distinctive logo on the hood. The Diesel logo can be seen on the rear decal, where the five air intakes of the classic Fiat 500's characteristic cooling system has been reproduced. If I wasn't so in love with my bike... or with the Prius, I'd totally covet this car... well if this Fiat 500 was a hybrid, I'd certainly love it way more than the Prius.

RIP Blue Eyes
| If there was one celebrity who could give me hope for mankind, that would have to be without question Paul Newman. At the age of 83, he passed away from lung cancer Friday, September 26 in his home near Westport, Connecticut. Aside from being a great actor, a gorgeous man, he continually pushed himself throughout his life, He married his wife, Joanne Wooward in 1958, at the age of 47 he took up race car driving, his wife and him built an amazing salad dressing empire which donated all profits to charity. Newman was just a modern day superhero, though not in a cape and a blue spandex suit, but in real terms... staying true to himeself, helping others and keeping humble. I'll miss him... but thank goodness the salad dressing isn't going anywhere. My Favorite Paul Newman filmsCool Hand Luke (1967)The Hustler (1961)Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)The Sting (1973)Screen test with James DeanTwo of the most beautiful men that ever lived... swoon....

| If you are looking for sleek casual shoes to go with skinny jeans... well, my love, the Swedes are taking over the planet, first Volvo, then IKEA, then H&M... now Cheap Monday, Acne and Gram Shoes.Next thing you know, we'll all be eating caviar on toast. Oh, wait, isn't that the Norwegians? I need to get my Nordics straight. If you want to see more about the shoe design couple... watch this video, they are rather charming. I can't even spell chivalry
| Without the built-in spell check of Firefox... thanks nerdy techies!Oh dear... chivalry isn't dead, it's just been redirected, leaving us all a little bit confused. As a woman, I know I do enjoy being doted upon, and given a bunch of attention... but then again, so do my cats. And so does my boyfriend. And so does basically everyone I know.Gala darling posted a wonderful concise article on How to be a gentleman... for those of us who like how-to's (me), and how to be a gentleman isn't so different than learning how to be a lady.

The Problem With Mens Accessories
| Finding cool accessories can be tough for men.. and could come with complications as David Sedaris finds out...Thanks Andrew for posting this.

Swedish Style Milita
| It's not quite chilly enough for wool coats...though there are days where you can see your breath. I'm going around the house in a Norwegian sweater, and I must say, the Scandinavians know wool. Though I'm not really one for military gear (thou shalt not commit cammo), this vintage wool Swedish Army coat has got to be one of the most perfect coats. I love the back pocket details, an the sheer simplicity of it all.Found at the Cotton Love shop on eBay, it's quite an extensive vintage menswear shop with a great selection.

How To Fold a Pocket Square
| The pocket square is one of those forgotten details of a suit. I don't see very many of them, and it's a shame... because they add a bit of color and character to a suit, perhaps because all the men I know who wear pocket squares are characters.Dapper gent, Thom at The Sunday Best posted a great tutorial on a few ways to fold a pocket square. The Question of Manscaping
| A couple of guys from down under ask women what they think about... you know...It's cute, and I for one am glad to see men taking interest in this kind of thing.
|
Reality Fiction
| Personally, I've never been to a convention... of any kind. But you know from the Simpsons, about the SciComBiMonCon where everyone dresses up. I had no idea that these people were real. Photographer Steve Schofield takes photos of the people who dress up as science fiction characters in their homes.I wonder what these people do for Halloween?

Bow Beau
| There's not a lot of men who can sport a bow tie with all seriousness... but the ones who do, well, they're usually the ones brimming with personality. I really like this bow tie spotted on Style Clicker, especially the way he's mixed his patterns. If you love Style Clicker... don't forget to check out the interview I did with him on The Coveted.

Born to Ride
| Damp Day Originally uploaded by thbonamici I know road biking has this macho connotation... as macho as you can get wearing spandex. Yo! But if you're not into that but would like to travel around in fresh air, I think this guy has a great look for riding.I particularly like the muted colors with the red shoe laces. Nice.
