Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures The variations on the 1920s theme keep rolling out, each editorial picking up the tune and either stripping it back to the barest melody, or embellishing it with trills and turns. In most cases there’s a feeling of opulence that defines our vision of the era: shiny metallics, fluffy feathers, delicate fabrics that hang from the body – never cling tightly to it. This particular take was both styled and photographed by Damian Foxe. Starring Sam Rollinson, it includes the usual suspects of the ’20s revival world: the art deco dresses of Gucci and Cavalli, the doll-like makeup, the black bob here worn with short bangs. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures “Mental health remains a taboo subject for many,” explains photographer Rolf A. Jensen. A way of bringing those hidden grievances suffered silently by many to light, Jensen’s latest shoot visualizes the experience of compulsive disorders – in a fashion setting. The end result is a series of images you cannot shy away from. Illustrations by Aldous Massie infiltrate the shots more so than decorate them, like hallucinatory visions that creep their way into a troubled mind. Model Carina Velva acts out the experiences of claustrophobia, anger, paranoia, schizophrenia. Dark and visually striking it may be, but it’s a case of using fashion and beauty not just for aesthetic value but as a tool for drawing attention to a deeper cause. “The goal is to focus on the suffering that people hide inside,” says Jensen, and to encourage “the necessary help, support, understanding that is needed.” Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fragrances & Scents / Make-up & beauty Scents are fascinating things. They can be the olfactory manifestation of a single breed of flower, or of a whole garden of botanicals. They can evoke a particular mood (like Tom Ford’s Violet Blonde). Or they can be a place, bottled up and captured like the simultaneous memory of all the sights and sounds of a single day. That’s what Tom Ford’s Lavender Palm is. It’s a summer’s day in California, pressed into a bottle. Putting on such a fragrance is the equivalent of an unusual form of teleportation. Spray. Close eyes. Breathe. You’re there. It’s the warmth of sun on your face, the elegance of silk on your skin, it’s grass and leaves crushed underfoot; it’s elegant, warm, and fresh. While some have reservations about lavender as the top note of a fragrance – particularly one of Tom Ford’s Private Blends – the citrus notes of bergamot, lemon and lime blossom and the herby freshness of the clary sage keep this scent galaxies away from the kind of lavender blends you might find on your grandmother’s nightstand. Vetiver and cedar add a stable, woody base. Article continues. To read it in full visit 'Lavender Palm: Tom Ford’s L.A in a bottle' at Fashionising.com » Tagged: tom ford | ![]() |
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures If one stunning beauty shoot from Factice magazine wasn’t enough to satisfy you, then I only have one solution: to point your attention in the direction of this one. Also stunning. Also from Factice’s tenth issue. Red hair, red lips, both styled by Warda Noufais, turn model Vanessa Jobb into a real-life Jessica Rabbit – especially when a deep, waved side part curtains one eye. Pierre Soubbotnik’s richly saturated photography is perfect for the femme fatale mood. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures Sometimes the simplest concepts really do work best. Who would have thought that pressing a near-naked Daisy Lowe up against a piece of glass could make for such a minimal yet visually grabbing series of photos? I say near-naked because the shoot concept is around jewellery – featuring accessories from the likes of Tiffany & Co, Cartier and Bulgari. This is also Daisy at her best. Hair kept messy and fringed, glamour kept unpolished and hinting at the bohemian. Sometimes, when a model has a particular strength, it seems pointless not to play to it. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion industry / Topical fashion discussions / Travel Founded by Rei Kawakubo of Japanese label Commes des Garcons in 2004, Dover Street Market is more of a designer boutique slash art gallery than an actual market. It’s so-called because individual concessions, or ‘stalls,’ are spread over five floors, occasionally interspersed with art works you can buy. Cooler than Selfridges and edgier than Browns, but just as expensive, DSM is where rich arty types come to splash their cash, and where art students come to window shop. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures “The lush garden of Elizabeth Taylor’s former home” is the backdrop, though you’d think we might be entitled to see a little more of it. Instead this could be any hedge-lined rose garden. But the Beverly Hill mood does resonate throughout the shoot – especially with the strong play on retro florals that Francesa Burns styles into it. Abbey Lee Kershaw is the ‘American Pop’ girl in pin-up silhouettes, retro prints and a colour palette straight out of the 1950s, posing against said gardens. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures It’s the kind of shoot where you don’t notice much fashion. There’s plenty of blurring, obscuring, plenty of techniques from Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott that gear towards mood creation. The male models are, for the most part, clothing-less props. The shoot’s main drawcard – one time supermodel Linda Evangelista – is veiled, blurred, smudged with lipstick and left looking a little lost; but what outfits we do see, accessorised by showgirl headpieces that are the true attention-grabbers of the shoot, are well styled by Katie Grand. Posted in Fashion / Fashion advertising / Fashion blog / Fashion pictures If you’re familiar with Wheels & Dollbaby, and with the photography of Ellen Von Unwerth, then you wouldn’t even need to see the results of a collaboration between the two to know the match would be heaven-made. In fact it’s an all-round alignment of stars: the collection, of which the “Jolie Bow” silk picnic dress and its matching headscarf are a definite highlight; the beauty of the fresh-faced Parisian models; and the setting of the antique Theatre Dejazet all come together to create the perfect playground for Von Unwerth’s trademark style. Posted in Fashion / Bikinis & swimwear / Clothing & Accessories / Fashion blog Aesthetically there’s only so much you can do with swimwear to differentiate – particularly if you goal is to produce products that actually lend themselves to such practical activities as swimming or running around on the beach (and let’s face it, not all swimwear is made for swimming). So instead of aiming for the avant garde, the girls behind Eau Paix Vie distinguish themselves via simple philosophy. Woven into every bikini is their sense of adventure, lust for travel, belief that life in general – and summer in particular – is about having fun. In the brand’s own words, they’re looking to “invoke the happiness, good feelings and fun that come only from a beautiful summers day at the beach.” Each bikini is made from imported italian fabrics and other fabrics hand sourced around the world. We have one Eau Paix Vie bikini to give away. Read on for details. Article continues. Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures Wet-look hair and oiled skin. Could there be a better beauty representation of summer?
