Lady Gaga Dresses as Statue Of Liberty, Poses With Marc Jacobs for V Magazine September Issue

Jacobs and Lady Liberty Gaga cover V magazine's New York Issue. Photo: Mario Testino

In celebration of its New York Issue, V magazine chose two very fashionable NYC-bred talents -- Lady Gaga and Marc Jacobs -- to grace its vibrant September cover.

Pretty unsurprisingly, Gaga, dressed as a disheveled Statue of Liberty, appears in hardly anything aside from a lacy black bra and matching Calvin Klein panties with a beautiful buff-colored Louis Vuitton evening gown falling around her hips.

Her ever-changing tresses (read StyleList's Gaga hair predictions) are blondish-gray with a portion pointing straight up in seven spikes. She carries a burning torch (made by the Haus of Gaga) to complete the iconic statue effect.

Unlike with his Bang fragrance ad, Jacobs keeps his clothes on this time round, opting for a classic and handsome tux of his own paired with patent leather wingtips.

"Just as the Statue of Liberty was France's gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York's greatest gift to pop culture and fashion," V editor Stephen Gan says in the issue. "She embodies everything V is about, and is also a beacon of the city's creativity and hope."

"Exactly one year after her first V cover (the first fashion magazine cover she was on), we decided to do the New York Issue, and she was the first person who came to mind to represent our great city," he says. "In the year that's passed, she has become a bona fide genius and we can safely declare her our muse."

The cover of issue #67 was shot by Mario Testino and styled by Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti, while the V logo was created out of gum by New York-based artist Dan Colen. (Artists Nate Lowman and Spencer Sweeney take on the letter for two separate covers -- see them here!)

Another photograph of the duo -- in which Jacobs pushes Gaga around in a shopping cart, her crippling platform boots by Noritaka Tatehana stuck in the air -- opens a spread featuring a roster of other New Yorkers including Chloe Sevigny (in Miu Miu), Liya Kebede (in Dsquared), Debbie Harry, and Mark Ronson.

Kim Cattrall Talks Not Being a Sample Size, Disses Sarah Jessica Parker's 'Sex and the City' Outfits in Vogue UK

Much like "Sex and the City" man-eater Samantha Jones, Kim Cattrall discovered early on that size does, in fact, matter -- especially when it comes to her saucy character's wardrobe.

Though Samantha spent a lot of time out of her clothes, she always looked sexy in the moments she wore them. Because Cattrall is a bit curvier than cast mates Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis, stylist Patricia Field had to be a bit more creative in her clothing choices.

"I'm not a sample size like Sarah and Kristin, and I couldn't wear a lot of the clothes the young designers would send us," Cattrall, who debuted a bob haircut in June, tells Vogue UK. "I'd wear a lot of vintage -- some of things I wore were like pieces of art."

And that suited Cattrall just fine, especially because she wasn't necessarily a fan of the other characters' ensembles. "I was never into any of Charlotte's sweet dresses or Sarah's outfits," she says. "There were a few pieces of Sarah's that I liked on their own but not the outfits as such."

One actress whose style Cattrall does admire is It girl Carey Mulligan, who played her daughter in the 2007 British TV series "My Boy Jack."

"I adore her -- she has a very unique style that is very much her own," says Cattrall, who is currently playing Cleopatra at the Liverpool Playhouse in England. "When she cut her hair, it was a real shock because I always thought of her as having these beautiful, brunette locks. Her style keeps evolving, and I love that about her.

"When we worked together all those years ago, I was sent a bag of clothes from someone, and Carey said, 'Oh, I wish I'd be sent free clothes' and I remember telling her, 'You just wait, you will be.' And now look at her."

Cattrall says she's game for a third "Sex and the City" movie ("What other film would take you on a trip to the Sahara desert?"), and it's likely she's eager for Samantha to slip into something a little more comfortable.

"Sometimes the fittings would be eight hours long," she says, "and your whole body would ache from having clothes pulled on and off."

Speaking of Sarah Jessica Parker, read how she's bringing tan "cosmetic hosiery" back.

OPI Partners With Zac Posen for Z Spoke Spring 2011 Runway Show

New York Fashion Week is only a week away but who's counting? Um, we are.

And we have more news to report on the nail polish front, which is shaping up to be a major accessory for fall (hello, Chanel Khaki).

Zac Posen has chosen OPI Nail Lacquers as his official partner to create the nail looks for his Z Spoke by Zac Posen runway show.

"Given that OPI is the leading nail lacquer in the world, we couldn't resist working with their gorgeous array of colors," said Posen. "OPI is a noted fashion accessory in itself and will add the perfect touch to this year's Z Spoke collection."

"When Zac reached out to us, of course, we jumped at the opportunity. We'll have OPI technicians working on his show in New York and in Paris," Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director told StyleList.

"OPI worked on the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs shows last season. And in addition to Posen, we will have technicians styling nails at Rebecca Taylor, Charlotte Ronson, BCBG, and Max Azria," added Weiss-Fischmann.

Of course StyleList had to ask Weiss-Fischmann for an exclusive on which colors Posen's models will be wearing: "Zac loves deep greens, blues and oranges, He just really loves bright colors on nails and designs. We are figuring out how to accomplish all of that on 45 models. He wants toes to be very muted."

Will greige be among the muted shades?

How to Wear the Bold Lips Beauty Trend

Models wear bold lips on the Fall 2010 runways of Peter Som, Doo.Ri, and Richard Chai. Photos: Imaxtree | Stefan Gosatti, Getty Images | Jemal Countess, Getty Images for IMG

If you're going to have at least one makeup product in your handbag this fall, it should be a bold lipstick.

From matte to high-gloss finishes and blood orange to deep purple shades, there's a must-have lip for every woman.

In-your-face lip lacquers ruled the Fall 2010 runways of Peter Som, Doo.Ri, Proenza Schouler, Richard Chai, and Tory Burch. And leading ladies like Scarlett Johansson, Beyoncé, and January Jones have all been spotted wearing sultry noir lips in recent beauty campaigns.

"Deeper lip color is back in fashion because it's powerful, feminine and classy," says Make Up For Ever national education manager Erin McCarthy. "It's a great look because it sends the message, 'I'm confident and beautiful' which is the essence of the modern day woman."

And while you may be a bit intimidated by this fall makeup trend, it's a sure way to make a statement, adds Tom Pecheux, creative makeup director at Estée Lauder. "It is for the sophisticated, strong, and polished woman."

Hyped about this statement-making pout, StyleList tasked New York makeup artist Emily Kate Warren to mold these runway looks into wearable, bold lips on a real women -- namely, Susannah Cahn, news editor at StyleList.

As you can see in the photo below, bold lips are a simple way to add glamour to your makeup routine.

You need the Flash Player to view this. Click here to install.

Photo: Ben Ritter for AOL

You want to make sure that you start with a smooth foundation by exfoliating your lips, recommends Warren. "As the bright color disappears throughout the day, it will cling to the dry parts for dear life and remain when the rest completely rubs off."

For a flawless lipstick application, Pecheux suggests moisturizing with Vaseline and patting dry.

Prep your bold lips with a lip pencil like Make Up For Ever's Aqua Lip. "It's very important to line the lips, as this is where you will establish their shape, and liner is also key for making your lip color last," says McCarthy. "You can line with the natural lip shape, or when using a deep shade of liner, extend slightly outside the natural lip shape to add volume."

Warren used Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned as a lipstick for an easy, controlled application. But if you're a makeup novice, McCarthy advises applying color with a lip brush. "Starting in the center of the lower lip, apply lipstick, and wipe your brush on a tissue and blend it with a clean brush toward the outer edges of the lip."

This pro technique eliminates feathering product outside the lip line. For added dimension, you can apply a highly pigmented lipstick in a cool pink tone like Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense #35 to the center of the lower lip.

Blot away excess lipstick with tissue. Another pro trick Warren stands by is placing the tissue between "relaxed" lips and using the index finger to press down from left to right.

She then finished our model's look by layering a clear lip gloss on top and adding warmth to her face with a soft, pink blush.

A bright, bold lip adds that cool factor for fall, according to Pecheux, and works well with the season's heavy layered look of wool sweaters, leather jackets, camel overcoats, and booties.

Shop the selection of lipsticks, glosses, liners, and brushes below to help you nail the bold lips makeup trend, and check out our Wear the Beauty Trend column for more pretty looks to try.

Leighton Meester and Victoria Beckham Wear Same VB Dress

Spotted: Blair Waldorf trying to steal queen bee status from style icon Victoria Beckham.

In full Gossip Girl fashion, Leighton Meester mimicked the former Spice Girl by wearing a replica drape-neck sheath dress.

Victoria was the first to wear the dress of her own design at the Range Rover 40th anniversary party in London on July 1st.

The fashion mogul paired her cream colored number with simple diamond studs, super smokey eyes, and nude platform pumps that made her legs look miles long.

The slimming sheath was worn by Meester as she filmed a scene for Gossip Girl's fourth season at the famed Standard Hotel in New York City.

In contrast to Beckham's smokey eyes and polished updo, the GG starlet opted for a more subtle approach, with minimal makeup and loose waves.

Meanwhile see what other stars can't get enough of VB's dresses.

Perfekt Beauty Launches Cheek Perfection Gel - an Exclusive Sneak Pre-Order and Free Gift

Perfekt Beauty's new Cheek Perfection Gel contains airbrush technology. Courtesy photo.

Is it a powder bronzer, cream blush or cheek stain?

Answer: none of the above.

But we're more than just a little obsessed anyway -- and so, we hear, are top celebrities like Victoria Beckham.

Perfekt Beauty's new Cheek Perfection Gel is a weightless sheer color gel that acts like an airbrush complexion primer, but with the payoff of subtle color that instantly customizes according to your skin tone, and you're seeing it for the very first time here on StyleList.

The soft-finish gel comes in both traditional Blushed and Bronzed shades, which both feel like silk against our fingertips. Since the highly-concentrated pigment isn't mixed with water, the tiniest bead is all you need to blend a sculpted cheekbone or radiantly blushing apple of the cheek.

Ingredients like caffeine stimulate circulation and tone the skin, while niacin increases ceramide and free fatty acid levels for a plumper finish.

Brit "It" makeup artist Rachel Wood says there are unique advantages to using the gel.

"It looks like the color is naturally coming through the skin. It's also long-lasting, which is terrific in hot weather," says Wood. "This product works and adapts with your own natural skin tone, which makes this gel special in comparison to other products."

As for our favorite benefit: it's fast. We hope Mom's not reading, because we admit to blushing up en route to brunch this past weekend -- while stopped at a red light.

"Use a small dab on the apple of the cheek, and work up towards the top of the ear to enhance cheekbones. You don't even need a makeup brush or wedge sponge, the fingers work fine," instructs Wood.

The cheek treats join an existing line of perfecting gel products -- including a fake-it foundation gel we can't get enough of -- and will launch at Henri Bendel and PerfektBeauty.com in on Friday, September 10th in celebration of Fashion's Night Out, followed by Sephora.com in October and Sephora stores in November.

But because we hate waiting for beauty goodies that we want now, we've arranged for a special pre-sale exclusive to StyleList readers, plus a complimentary secret A-list travel-sized product with every order!

Simply click here to shop before everyone else.

Though do take care to stay away from our applying makeup while driving no-no -- as you should with flip-flops and bare feet too.

Betsey Johnson Bailed Out by Steve Madden

Happier times: Betsey Johnson at an event in July in New York City. Photo: Getty Images

Betsey's bailout could be Steve's steal.

Steve Madden has taken over a $48.8 million loan to Betsey Johnson LLC that is currently in default. SEC documents filed Thursday show that if this loan is not paid by August 20, 2012, Madden will end up owning the brand and possibly the collateral that secured the loan in the first place - namely the designer and her business partner Chantal Bacon's personal assets, as well as the company's intellectual property, aka its brand name.

Madden spent about $27.6 million to buy out this loan through a wholly owned subsidiary formed on Thursday specifically for this transaction.

The shoe and handbag maker is no stranger to the 68-year-old Johnson's products and the brand. Madden holds the license for handbags, small leather goods, belts and umbrellas under the Betsey Johnson and Betseyville brands.

This financial snafu comes at a time when it could put a damper on her spring 2011 runway show, set for Monday, September 13 at the Tents at Lincoln Center. However, as of press time, there was no word about a change, so it seems the show will go on.

Meanwhile Madden's company seems to be on fire. The maker of Madonna's Material Girl line and Olsenboye shoes recently bought handbag maker Big Buddah for about $11 million in cash. Last month, it made a $5 million investment in Bakers Footwear Group. The acquisition of Betsey Johnson could end up being a well-priced feather in Madden's cap.

Calls for comment to Johnson were not returned. A Madden spokeswoman declined to comment at this time.

The Weekender: Labor Day Outfit

Jennifer Garner gears up for fall wearing jeans and a plaid top while out running errands with her daughter. Photo: Getty Images

For most people, Labor Day is a chance to kick back and soak up the last rays of summer. For others, it's filled with fall cleaning, doing all of those chores that you spent the hot months postponing. In this installment of The Weekender, we've come up with a cute outfit to keep all that labor from seeming, well, laborious.

Style Tips:
  • Shorts: Skip the jean cut-offs. They're uncomfortable to work in. Instead, go with a fabric that breathes more. The slouchy fit of these cotton Gap shorts make them a great choice and the slight fading means they'll stand up to a little roughing up. They're also a versatile pick. With red being a spot-on color for fall, you could later pair with a chunky cardigan and tights for a transitional look.
  • Tank top: Labor Day is a great excuse to get a few wears out of the summer's best trends. Playful polka dots were our favorite print of the season. If you didn't get a chance to try out the trend, carpe diem with this great Old Navy tank.
  • Hoodie: One of our sartorial secrets is that we just can't get enough of teeny bopper surfer brands these days. Over the past two years, brands like Roxy, Billabong, and Hurley have been turning out such creative takes on comfy basics (like this adorable hoodie) that we've been caught sneaking into Pacific Sun on more than one occasion.
  • Scarf: Keep your hair out of the way by tying it back with a printed scarf. We like the way the stripes and colors of this one play off the contrasting polka dots in the top.
  • Boots: All boots look better with a little breaking in, and a day of hard labor is just the way to do it. Throw on your new fall boots while you're working outside and you'll soften the leather and even give them a bit of character.

Jennifer Lopez Love & Glamour Fragrance - Exclusive Web Content and Contest!

A behind-the-scenes look at Jennifer Lopez's Love & Glamour fragrance ad campaign. Courtesy Photo

Jennifer Lopez is looking to spread some of her trademark red carpet glamour to the masses this fall.

The bootylicious star is launching Love & Glamour, a fragrance that takes its cue from Lopez's luxurious movie-premiere style of feline curves, sexy fabrics, and sky-high stiletto heels.

The juice is a sparkling blend of mandarin, nectarine, water lily, coconut orchid, and jasmine petals, with a base of sandalwood, musk, and amber.

Yet most eye-catching is the nude bottle topped with an oversize pink faceted jewel and etched in a sweeping waist-to-hip proportion that mimics the creator's well-known figure. (Maybe she should follow Kim Kardashian's lead and get that famous bum measured for posterity?)

Lopez's fragrance will launch in October and range in cost from $27.50 to $58 for body lotion and eau de parfum sizes, but we've got the goods on a special preview and giveaway now!

Starting today, StyleList readers can score an exclusive peek with this secret link to Love & Glamour's microsite, where you can enter to win your own Hollywood-style pampering, which includes a $500 shopping spree and spa day of hair, makeup, and treatments in the winner's hometown.

And if you feel like you're never the one to win that grand prize, get this: a whole 500 first-prize winners will receive a free Love & Glamour fragrance and matching cosmetics case. Now that's what we call a giveaway!

Jennifer Lopez vogues for the camera. Courtesy Photo

The secret site will also reveal Lopez's beautifying routine, which the star has entrusted to personal makeup artist/friend Scott Barnes since the beginning of her career.

"From watching Scott do my face for so many years, I'm now a pro at doing my own low-run version of what he does!" Lopez told StyleList earlier this year.

(Skin-care tip: We hear it all begins with a layer of Dr. Hauschka's Rose Cream, which the star nabs at Whole Foods.)

The fragrance ads are equally luxe, with the background shot on an actual movie set, and hair, makeup, and posing done in classic dramatic 1940s cinema style.

Love & Glamour is the seventh addition to the star's already top-selling fragrance portfolio, of which Blue Glow was the most recent launch.

We have a suggestion. Maybe La Lopez can teach us how to smell like multimillion-dollar businesswomen with the next scent?

In related news, check out Lopez looking fierce on the cover of Glamour!

Keratin Treatment-Approved Hair Products

L'Oreal's Ever Pure line is safe for keratin-treated hair. Courtesy photo.

Keratin treatments are sweeping the country, making curly and frizzy-haired girls' grooming routines infinitely easier. But the one possible drawback to these treatments (aside from the price) is that most hair products can no longer be used afterward, as they contain an ingredient that can break down the keratin -- and the results you just paid a pretty penny for.

"Sodium chloride is the main culprit; products that contain this ingredient cannot be used after a Keratin treatment or Brazilian blowout," explains Michael Shaun, Global Creative Director for Alterna. The ingredient (better known as salt) should be avoided.

In order to make it easy for you, we've compiled a list of sodium chloride-free hair products that are safe to use post-keratin. Always double-check the labels to make sure formulas haven't changed.

Best Back to School Hair for Teachers

Photo: SuperStock

Trendy teens are not the only ones searching for the hippest back-to-school hairstyles these days. Teachers are too! So before the bell rings, we are sharing our expert tips for our hardworking teachers who want the smartest, no-fuss hairdo's -- guaranteed to earn you an A+ in and out of the classroom.

The first lesson to remember is that being a role model doesn't mean you have to be boring!

"No matter how old you are, always keep your hairstyle new and fresh," says celebrity stylist Anthony Linzalone from New York's Pierre Michel Salon. "Don't stay stuck in an era. You don't want your kids stuck in an era and you don't want to be remembered as stuck in an era."

Today, teachers can rock a chic 'do while still keeping it simple to style on those early weekday mornings. Take a look at Linzalone's favorite classroom looks for every length:

Short Hair -- The trend right now is for easy-to-maintain bobs (a.k.a. this season's "Flapper Bobs") that are razored at the bottom and worn soft and flattering around the neck. These haircuts fall beautifully and look very professional and extremely stylish. They can be worn with bangs, a slight angle or a long layer for movement.

Shoulder Length Hair -- Cuts should be blunt and crisp for a trendy, yet sophisticated look. Make sure to trim at least every six weeks so it stays fresh and bouncy. You can wear it neat like Naomi Watts or slightly tousled like Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Scarlett Johansson. If your hair is naturally wavy, toss aside the flat-iron and embrace those curls by wearing hair loose, yet tucked away from your face.

Naomi Watts (left) and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (right) have great back-to-school hairstyles. Photo: Getty Images

Long Hair -- Longer locks should not be worn down because it doesn't look as professional (plus it's too easy for little sticky fingers to pull on it!). Instead, try a loose pony tail with a soft fringe to keep it current or fashion's newest twisted braid. Any accessory should be simple -- like a slim hairband, bobby pins or small clips. No bright or bling-bling hair accessories needed.

If you don't have time to wash your hair before the bell rings, Linzalone says don't panic. "Less is more. "Don't over work it," he says. You can refresh your bedhead hair by spritzing it with a spray gel and then blow-drying it upside down for a couple of minutes. Or, try a dry shampoo -- like Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo -- to refresh your roots without the lather-rinse-and-repeat routine.
