Michael Steele Blasts John Heilemann For Comparing Same-Sex Marriage To Interracial Marriage
| Former RNC chairman Michael Steele, for one, believes laws concerning gay marriage should be discussed and decided at a local level. Panelist John Heilemann then asked Steele what he thought about the fact that, at one point, local standards held that it was unacceptable for black men to marry white women. Steele rejected the comparison. | |

Ed Schultz: ‘Fox News Continues To Set The Record For The Most Ridiculous Things Ever Said On Television’
| Yesterday on The Five, Dana Perino made the bizarre claim that M.I.A. wasn't American enough to perform in the Super Bowl Halftime Show unlike such American luminaries as, I guess, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Madonna's accent. Obviously, Perino's allegation was borderline laughable and easy to make fun of (seriously, if I didn't have to leave the office early yesterday, Frances never would have gotten a chance at this post), so you know what that means; set the timer for a rival cable network to mock it. And...take it away Ed Schultz! | |
Mitt Romney’s Secret Service Detail Clobbers Potential Glitterbomber
| Secret Service pounced upon an audience member allegedly wielding glitter following Mitt Romney's speech in Denver, Colorado.

| GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich, campaigning in Ohio, was a guest on Fox & Friends Tuesday morning, and hit on topics ranging from his disdain for attack ads to a possible rise in the polls for Rick Santoum. Host Steve Doocy, however, started the segment off by asking if Gingrich would ever follow in the footsteps of Mitt Romney and belt out a pro-America tune anytime soon. | |
Gipper Move: President Obama Won’t Unilaterally Disarm On SuperPACs
| The influence of independent expenditure groups like PACs and SuperPACs has become a major factor in this year's presidential election. Consequently, the news that President Obama has decided to encourage donations to the Priorities USA Action SuperPAC is dominating political news today, with handwringing on the left and the right about the President's prior vocal opposition to outside groups. Philosophically, he's just taking a page from Ronald Reagan's book. | |
Texas Rep. Joe Barton Defends Highway Project After Being Named In Earmarks Report
| The Washington Post has launched an investigation into congressional earmarks, finding that these are sometimes used to fund projects near lawmakers' homes -- projects like, in the case of one Georgia politician, securing "$6.3 million in taxpayer funds to replenish the beach about 900 feet from his island vacation cottage." | |
Beware! “Piranha Women” Want To Get Pregnant, Steal All Your Money

Democracy In Action: President Obama Explains Why He Needs To Use A Super PAC To…End Super PACs
| Super PACs have been facing heavy criticism since the moment they were created but, lately, that outcry has become nearly deafening. One of the harshest critics has been President Obama. That's why it was awesome for his campaign to write a blog post explaining why they need to win eliminate Super PACs by winning the election...using a Super PAC. This morning on CNN, Obama supporter Russell Simmons defended the President's "second Super PAC wrong to make a campaign finance reform right" approach. | |

RuPaul’s Drag Race Recap: Hitting ‘Em Where It Werks
| I don't mind telling you I was disappointed by last night's episode of Drag Race. One would have thought that combining two of everyone's favorite things (drag queens and professional wrestling, obviously) would make for an explosion of glitter and gore. And yet... meh. One thing happened, then another thing happened, and then Willam's [Peanut Butter Cup] was hanging the [Fudge] out next to a sweaty wrestling ring. | |
Karen Handel Denounces Planned Parenthood’s ‘Vicious Attacks And Coercion’ Against Komen Foundation

Senate Hopeful Pete Hoekstra Tells Fox News That Controversial Ad Will Continue To Air
| Former Michigan Representative Pete Hoekstra went on Fox News to elaborate on his Super Bowl ad that turned out to be a Super Bust. The ad sparked a serious backlash after airing in the precious Super Bowl commercial space. The "promotional" video featured an Asian women riding a bicycle through a rice field. The woman stopped to revere Hoekstra's Democratic challenger for a Senate seat, Debbie Stabenow, cleverly renamed Debbie Spenditnow, in a form of broken English to further accentuate her ethnicity. | |
President Obama Was The Only Candidate Who Could Afford To Denounce Super PACs, Yet He Won’t
| President Obama has decided to give his blessing to Priorities USA, an “unaffiliated” Super PAC that will raise money on his behalf. Unaffiliated in the legal sense -- the president will not correspond with the group as required by law. But obviously by giving his public blessing Priorities USA will be far more likely to raise funds from big money Democratic donors. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with this. It’s legal and GOP candidates are already using Super PACs to their full advantage. But there is something very wrong with this. Let President Obama tell you in his own words circa the State of the Union in January 2010 | |
Keith Olbermann Returns Amid Reports He’s Hanging By A Thread
| After a week off due to a bout with bronchitis, Countdown host Keith Olbermann returned to the air Monday night, to the center of the Current TV universe, and to the black backdrop that seems a fitting stand-in for the star's reportedly tumultuous relationship with his employer. According to a new report by Newsweek, that relationship may be hanging by a thread, and with it, the future of Current's plan to become the left's answer to Fox News. | |
Game Changer? Rick Santorum Wins Colorado Caucus
| Rick Santorum has won Colorado, CNN reports. The announcement will send shockwaves across the political spectrum, as Romney, who was perceived to be the Republican frontrunner wakes up tomorrow, with less states won than the former Pennsylvania Senator. “This is a major upset!” said Denver-based political analyst Floyd Ciruli, according to the Denver Post. “Definitely, [...] | |

Soledad O’Brien Pushes Back On ‘Religious Liberty’ But Lets Abortion Pill Lie Slip Through
| On Tuesday morning's Starting Point, host Soledad O'Brien led yet another discussion of the Obama administration's decision to give non-church religious employers one year to comply with the Preventive Services Mandate, which some claim is an "attack on religious liberty."
O'Brien did a good job of challenging that false premise, but allowed guest Rep. Marcia Blackburn (R-TN) to slip in the lie that the mandate covers the "abortion pill."
The Occupy Movement Is Now Being Offered As A Political Science Course
| With nationwide Occupy camps being shut down and cleared out of parks across the country, those halcyon days of Fall 2011 -- protesters wiping their butts on police cars, job fair organizers being heckled, Miley Cyrus music videos, hipster cops, and awesome bicycle technology -- are but distant memories. But they aren't forgotten. One institution of higher learning, Chicago's Roosevelt University, is offering a course on the five-month old movement, as Occupy Chicago played out across the street from its campus.

| The Super Bowl slacklining sensation Andy Lewis AKA Sketchy Andy spoke with Brooke Baldwin during Tuesday's CNN Newsroom, and caught her off-guard when he told her he had battle-tested gonads. "Andy, I have to ask a question off the top that a lot of people are wondering. The first thought I had was, wow! The second being ouch! Doesn't that hurt?"
"I actually just -- I just made a video that you can view on YouTube right now. It's called Andy Lewis: Balls of Steel!" Lewis exclaimed. "You should check that out!"
The GOP Mocks Obama Campaign Fashion Show As ‘Ritzy’
| We should have expected that not everyone would be a fan of President Barack Obama‘s fashiony fundraiser, Runway to Win. On Tuesday, the Republican National Convention released a video characterizing the fashion show and resulting product line, organized by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, as an elitist spectacle that recession-stricken Americans can’t afford to participate in. |
Wolf Blitzer During Election Coverage: ‘People Are Dying In Syria Because They’d Like To Have A Caucus’
| During CNN's caucus-saturated election night coverage Tuesday, reports of heavy fighting in Syria interrupted the telecast, which prompted Wolf Blitzer to make a comment on the democratic proceedings of the night. "It sounds corny, Anderson," Blitzer observed. "Every time we see these little actions, caucuses unfold, democracy in action, as we're speaking, people are dying in Syria because they would like to have a caucus, they'd like to have a primary. They can't have one. We're having ours here in the United States. Let's keep some perspective on what's going on."

Billy Eichner Interviews Triumphant Giants Players About What Really Matters: How Awesome Madonna Is
| Billy Eichner is certainly not for everyone. Whereas shows like Cash Cab pretend to give random people on the street the chance to win money (I'm sorry, did I just disillusion you?), Eichner's style is to actually just run up to people and start screaming at them like a crazy person. On his Fuse game show, Billy on the Street, you can see him harassing poor pedestrians with questions like "True or false, Zac Efron looks like he wants to be molested by an older person?" Clearly, this is the kind of thing that viewers will either hate or find laugh out loud hilarious. For those of you lucky enough to fall in the latter category, Eichner's appearance last night on Conan is an almost too perfect heightening of this idea. | |
