Youth Basketball Coach Tells Kid Wrong Time To Show Up For Playoff Game Because He Stinks [Basketball]
Here's a messed up story and proof that those steak heads you went to high school with never, ever change. From a tipster who wishes to remain anonymous, a youth basketball league in California is about to kick off its playoff season next week and sent out a friendly reminder to coaches notifying them of the rules going forward. In part and [sic]'d: More »

Antoine Dodson Makes His Highly Anticipated Slow Jam Debut [Video]
Remember Antoine Dodson, he of the "Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife" viral video fame? Well, he's back, with a very serious slow jam called "Lovesick Lullaby," and a low-budget music video featuring someone named Brent Morgan. The whole thing feels very...Ginuwine, but YouTube commenters (internationally-recognized tastemakers that they are) seem to be into it: "Dang dude, I thought this was going to be meh, but you're AMAZING!!!!" one wrote. We wish Dodson the best of luck in his new non-sexual-assault-related endeavors. More »

A List of Things to Say to Sound as if You Understand the Super Bowl, Dummy [Super Bowl]
Not everyone knows football, and that's okay—even if you're an American. Everyone, though, is perfectly capable of sounding as if they might know a thing or two about football should the need arise. Here's what to yell at your TV and friends in order to sound like you maybe-kinda-sorta know what's going on this Sunday evening. More »

Robot Godzilla to Invade Coachella, Excrete Recyclables
T-Rex to consume recyclables at Coachella. Prize offered for best use of the dino droppings. Really.

A Chuck Norris Doppelgänger Was Doing Bizarre Things On ESPN Today [Video]
I hate those faux walls they put up behind basketball announcers during booth shots. You know what I'm talking about, those screens they erect to make it look like the broadcasters are in a studio while simultaneously blocking the view of people up front who are trying to watch Quick Change or Frisbee Dog or the Zooperstars or whatever else entertainment is happening on the court during the break. They're deceptive and silly and overall an annoyance. More »

Report: Ninety Percent of Chinese Gay Men Marry 'Suffering' Women [Lgbt]
A controversial new report claims that roughly 16 million Chinese women are married to gay men due to cultural pressure—that means that 9 out of every 10 gay men tie the knot with a woman. "Their wives are struggling to cope and their plight should be recognized," the professor behind the study told China Daily. His platform bothers some Chinese gay rights activists, who think the study oversimplifies the issue and perhaps even makes it worse. "To put gays' wives under the spotlight might cause more public misunderstanding or even hatred toward the gay population, which does not help defuse existing social discrimination against them," said Xiao Dong, a gay civil rights organizer. He added that the estimation is unsubstantiated and that he feels "it's pointless to research the issue." More »

Is Twitter More Addictive Than Booze? [Studies]
Are we constantly checking our phones because we're assholes or addicts? The Guardian reports on a new study that used BlackBerrys to measure the willpower of its subjects. Researches found that participants were mostly able to resist the impulses to drink, fuck, and even sleep. Twitter, email, and other forms of media, however, were simply too strong. More »

Week in Apple: post-Macworld|iWorld edition

This week, we wrapped up our coverage of the 2012 Macworld|iWorld conference in San Francisco just as Apple issued an update to Final Cut Pro X and gave the AirPort Utility an iOS makeover. Additionally, Tim Cook offered some strong words in response to doubts about Apple's attitude toward worker conditions in China, Neil Young recounted stories about Steve Jobs working towards higher-quality music downloads, and more. Need a recap? You're in the right place.

Rethinking iPhone UI and getting things done with Clear to-do app: Realmac is set to launch an iPhone to-do list app in a few weeks that breaks list making and maintaining down to the barest essentials, eschewing some common iPhone UI elements to make the app as simple as humanly possible.

LandingZone to ease docking for MacBook Air: A new Cupertino startup is launching a clever, well-designed docking solution for Apple's MacBook Air. The first version is set to begin shipping by March, but a planned Thunderbolt-equipped version is on hold pending licensing approval from Intel.

‘Vibrant, Messy Democracy’ Or ‘Babysitting Criminals’? O’Reilly Takes On Occupy Oakland
While the Occupy movement is mostly subdued in the various places it awoke in the rest of the country, the protesters at Occupy Oakland, partially motivated by historic local tensions with police there, are clashing with police in the streets, and on The O'Reilly Factor last night, host Bill O'Reilly discussed the potential good that can come from these protests with guests, who did not manage to convince him to embrace the movement.

The Wire Troll: Jerryd Bayless Starting Again For Raptors
Bayless has started three of the past four games at the two, and had scored at least 14 points per game in four straight before sinking just 1-of-6 for three points on Friday. Still, the minutes were there (28), and I expect the production to follow. He’s been jacking up more treys this season and draining them at an impressive 40 per cent rate, so if Bayless maintains this starting role and keeps getting 25+ MPG, he’s going to help you.

Daniel Radcliffe Still Bigger Box Office Draws Than Whales [Box Office]
Well, we can't give all the credit to Daniel Radcliffe, but — we kind of can, right? The Boy Who Lived as Harry Potter For a Decade has moved on to a starring role in Woman in Black. Despite low expectations, Reuters reports that the horror film opened strong at $8.3 million on Friday. (It's worth noting that CBS Films predicted $11 million for the entire weekend.) The other big surprise was Fox's teens-with-superpowers thriller Chronicle, which actually beat out Woman in Black on Friday. Relax, Dan Rad fans — his movie is expected to surpass its competition. Is Bruce Boudreau a Jack Adams candidate?
Let’s not kid ourselves—11 points out with 31 games to play, the Anaheim Ducks do not have a realistic hope at the NHL playoffs this season. After a hot second half last season that landed them in a first round series against Nashville, the Ducks will need to go about 21-6-4 from here on out [...]

Is Harrison Ford starring in the Blade Runner sequel? [Blade Runner]
With Ridley Scott giving us a Ripley-free Alien movie, it wouldn't be surprising if his new Blade Runner project didn't include Harrison Ford's replicant hunter Deckard. But Harrison Ford may be picking up the blaster for a direct Blade Runner sequel. More »

Komen's Planned Parenthood Strategy Secretly Devised by Ultra-Conservative Pundit [Disgrace For The Cure]
At this point, it's less than shocking that the Komen Foundation secretly hired an ultra-conservative, former George W. Bush White House press secretary to handle the Planned Parenthood debacle. We're just surprised Ari Fleischer — who was once briefly employed by Tiger Woods to help him reenter the PGA Tour — didn't do a better job. More »

Watch Tony Bennett And John Mayer’s “One For My Baby” Video
Tony Bennett pulled out all the stops for his Grammy-nominated Duets II album, joining forces with some of the most talented musicians of the last decade such as Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga. And the streak continues as we get a music video for his sonic rendezvous with John Mayer, “One For My Baby (One ... More »

Nevada ‘Bunny Ranch’ Pimp And Prostitute Tell Napolitano Why They Love Ron Paul
In his personal life, Rep. Ron Paul is known for being a conservative family man that opposes most excesses, but by virtue of being a libertarian candidate, he attracts supporters from all walks of life. This week on Freedom Watch, Judge Andrew Napolitano spoke to two of those supporters, employees at Nevada's "Bunny Ranch" who believe that Rep. Paul is "the modern-day Thomas Jefferson" and trust his ability to lead.

The rise of the Amazons, and the fall of Dean, on Supernatural [Video]
I like to watch teenage Amazons eat weirdly poop-looking chunks of human flesh as much as the next person, but still last night's Supernatural didn't do much for me. "The Slice Girls" was a welcome respite from the heavy, depressing arc following Bobby's death, but it also gave us weirdly flat monsters who might have been more at home in a Hammer film circa 1970. That said, this episode gave Jensen Ackles a chance to shine as we watched Dean sliding deeper into depression and desperation. More »

Treaded Skateboard Turns Any Mountain Into Your Halfpipe [Skateboards]
The hard plastic wheels used on skateboards usually means they're relegated to only gleaming the cube on smoother surfaces like sidewalks. That's not the case with Rockboard's Descender, which adds tank-like treads for all-terrain ollies and kickflips. More »
